"make it easier for the families and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts find solutions to the problems of finding interventions."
I tried to counsel them about interventions and the best way to do them, but in the end – I was unable to find help for many of these alcoholics and addicts because the families that were calling were just not able to put together a properly organized intervention that was tailored to the needs of the individual. I decided to try and make it easier for the families and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts find solutions to the problems of finding interventions.
" An experienced interventionist knows how to do the research needed to get the addict or alcoholic to accept the help they need..."
I decided the best way to go about this goal was to contact interventionists that have been successful in helping families in the past and interview them about their techniques. In doing so, I found a strong feeling from successful interventionists that all interventions just don’t happen the way they do on TV. A real intervention done by a qualified interventionist and is tailored to both the addict/alcoholic and the family and support system and can take a variety of forms – from the full blown surprise confrontation as seen on TV to the interventionist simply sitting down and calmly speaking to the patient. An experienced interventionist knows how to do the research needed to get the addict or alcoholic to accept the help they need in the correct setting.
" talk to an interventionist with no obligation..."
The last piece of the puzzle is finding the best possible way to link the families that I was speaking to from my jobs in substance abuse centers to the professional interventionists who often have small private practices. In many cases, the only way to find a quality interventionist is to be referred by someone else in the field – but I wanted a way that anyone with an addict or alcoholic in their life who was resistant to help could talk to an interventionist with no obligation to have their questions answered or to set up an intervention if necessary. That is why I started the National Intervention Association and this website – as a way to connect those in need with those qualified to help. I am proud to say that we have helped a great number of alcoholics, addicts as well as their families and loved ones and I look forward to continuing to do so in the years ahead
